The new single by Melbourne mutants The Electric Guitars is out now on 7” 33rpm black vinyl. It features roughly 6 minutes per side of dense, blazing music, recorded and mixed by Paul Maybury (who has recorded King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Wet Lips, etc.) over several gruelling sessions of ritual equipment abuse at A Secret Location, Melbourne, in the depths of 2016 & ’17.
The songs on the 7” are two long dirges that, lyrically (and probably musically as well), explore the joy of revenge. In Three Body Problem it’s a long, meticulously planned, all-encompassing retribution that first destroys the sanity of the protagonist, then the victim, and then everything else. In Death from Beside it’s the reckless thrill of instantaneous vengeance done in the heat of the moment.
The single was never intended as a concept record nor a love letter to revenge, and the group doesn’t necessarily recommend revenge as a lifestyle choice – they just happen to have a lot of songs on the subject.
